About ICON |
|
|
ICON is AQIS’s import conditions database. It is a simple and convenient way to access
information about Australian import conditions for more than 20,000 plant, animal,
microbial, mineral and human commodities. It can be used to determine if a commodity
intended for import to Australia needs a quarantine permit and/or treatment or if there are
any other quarantine prerequisites.
Navigating ICON is easy. The database has been divided into five sections: ‘About ICON’, ‘ICON Search’, ‘ICON Alerts’, ‘ICON Help’ and ‘Email us’. Simply choose the most appropriate area and follow the instructions. Because ICON is updated immediately when changes are made to the import information, it’s a quick and easy way to stay in touch with Australian import requirements. The ‘ICON Alerts’ page contains hot topics or major changes to AQIS import requirements. Import conditions can change quickly and it is the responsibility of the importer to ensure that the information they have is up to date by checking regularly on ICON or by contacting AQIS. Please be aware that it is the importer's responsibility to also ensure compliance with the requirements of all other regulatory and advisory bodies associated with importing commodities to Australia. Among others, these could include the Australian Customs Service, Department of Health and Ageing, Therapeutic Goods Administration, Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority, Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts and State Departments of Agriculture. There are also interstate quarantine requirements that may restrict the movement of goods between states/territories. Information on these restrictions can be obtained from the respective State/Territory Departments of Agriculture. For further information about import requirements, contact the ICON Administrator or your nearest AQIS office. |
